Science Week

Wow, what an incredible Science Week we had St John's! We started the week with a worship learning about all the things that change and adapt around the world. Did you know that an octopus can change its colour and texture to camouflage itself?

Nursery explored how caterpillars change into butterflies and made their own caterpillars using cutting, painting and curling skills; Reception discovered how carrots, lettuce and carrots change as they grow; Year 1 investigated how different sized jars and different amounts of water can create different sounds and Year 2 observed how different elements change the ice bergs in Antarctica and thought about how the animals would have to adapt if the ice disappeared.

Thank you to all the children and adults who made our Science Breakfast a huge success this year and well done to all the children for creating such fantastic animals. You all put so much thought and effort into them, and it was amazing to hear you speak so confidently about your creations.

A special thank you goes to Andy (Charlie in Sycamore's Grandfather) and Rebecca (Annie in Nursery & Jasper in Lilac's Mummy) from Aldenham School for their exciting and informative talk on animal adaptations. It was lovely to meet and learn about Ecto the bearded dragon too. We are so lucky to have connections with other local schools and will always welcome parent visitors to talk about STEM with the children.
